Joint Finance approves $1.5 billion in capital projects

The Joint Finance Committee voted along party lines Tuesday evening to approve $1.5 billion in building projects.
Adding in projects the committee had approved earlier in the process, and its capital budget is about $800 million less than the $2.4 billion that Gov. Tony Evers had proposed.
The GOP motion, approved 11-4, nixed a series of projects that Evers had wanted, including $163.6 million for a new state office building in Milwaukee. It also pared back proposed spending for UW System projects to $628.7 million after Evers had called for $1 billion in projects.
