The “big lie” that last year’s presidential election was stolen poses a threat to democracy itself, AG Josh Kaul told Dem activists.
Addressing the virtual convention, Kaul recounted the legal fights the Department of Justice was involved in leading up to the election. He also touted the agency’s work afterward to combat former President Trump’s effort to overturn the results.
Still, he warned the right was not over. He noted other states have made a series of moves to overhaul election procedures, including some that have sought to give Legislatures the power to overturn the results of an election.
“That is fundamentally undemocratic,” Kaul said. “We need to make sure that we’re electing leaders that we can count on to stand up for that core democratic principle.”
