Milwaukee–The League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County is holding a public issues forum to explore the link between COVID-19 and Milwaukee wastewater on March 25, 2021 at 7 pm until 8:30 pm. Presenters are Dr. Sandra McLellan, Professor of Freshwater Sciences, UW-Milwaukee, and Kevin Shafer, Executive Director of Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD), who will share important COVID-19 research and other activities at MMSD to keep Milwaukee safe.

According to Dr. McLellan, “by analyzing wastewater samples we can understand the trends of COVID-19 spread in Wisconsin communities.”

As Executive Director of the MMSD, Kevin Shafer is responsible for the planning, design, construction and oversight of operations at MMSD for treating the wastewater from 28 communities in SE Wisconsin. Shafer stated, “MMSD investments protect our health and improve our environment.”

As part of its mission to empower voters and defend democracy, the League of Women Voters offers educational public forums on issues of critical importance to the community.
