WAUWATOSA, WI – December 9, 2021 – Equity leader Sean Lowe formally announced his candidacy for Wauwatosa Common Council today, Thursday, December 9, for the spring 2022 election. Lowe has served the last three years as chair of the Wauwatosa Equity and Inclusion Commission; for over ten years, he served with the Milwaukee Urban League Young Professionals Executive Leadership Team, where he led as president from 2014-2018 and has spent almost 20 years serving with the National Urban League Young Professionals. He received the National Urban League Young Professionals Honors: Heroes of the Movement Award, the National Urban League Young Professionals President’s Distinguished President Award, and the Milwaukee Urban League Young Professionals-Community Achiever award. For the last 18 years, Lowe has worked at Northwestern Mutual. He also serves on the Northwestern Mutual African-American Employee Resource Group Member and received the Northwestern Mutual Pacesetter First 40 and Bronze Award. 

Lowe was named one of the most influential African-Americans in Wisconsin by Madison365, received the Milwaukee Business Journal 40 Under 40 Award, and was nominated and featured in Who’s Who in Black Milwaukee. In addition, he received the United Way Philanthropic 5 Award and is a two-time National Urban League Young Professionals Outstanding Young Professional of the Year. He is the first person in the history of the National Urban League to win this award twice.

In making his announcement, Lowe pledged to continue focusing on inclusion, safety, and justice, greenspace, parks, and healthy environments, growth, business, and opportunity in Wauwatosa. “I am focused on the success of all residents in the city of Wauwatosa. I believe that by delivering equity in leadership to all citizens in all parts of our city, we can create a world-class city in Wisconsin, one that prepares us for growth, promotes inclusion while focusing on our parks, safety, and security for all residents,” Lowe said.

In addition to his goal of building a community for all while attracting creative businesses and dynamic leaders to Wauwatosa, Lowe is also pledging to rebuild trust with law enforcement and community members; to maintain parks, walking paths, beer gardens, athletic fields, and all other great, green, outdoor spaces in Wauwatosa; and to lead with respect and honor for all citizens.

Lowe was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended John Marshall High School and then earned his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Since then, he has worked at Northwestern Mutal for almost 20 years and currently works as a Planning and Sales Senior Specialist.

The election for Wauwatosa Common Council Aldermanic District Five will be held on April 5, 2022, with a primary election on February 15, 2022, if necessary.
