Madison– Today, the Joint Finance Committee is scheduled to vote on a motion to cut support for small business, stop 95K Wisconsin residents from getting health insurance and slash investments in our kids.

Without even waiting for Treasury guidance on how the federal funds from the American Rescue Plan will be able to be spent…the majority is rushing a process to gut the good ideas put forward by Gov. Tony Evers in his Badger bounceback budget.

This is a partisan over reach and the people of Wisconsin will remember who was on their side and who made it harder for them to run their small business, get insurance or make sure their kids get a good, high quality education.

Main Street Alliance and our over 100 member businesses in Wisconsin strongly support the Badger Bounceback budget because it:

  • Includes $200 million in additional support for small business;
  • Expands Badgercare and brings in an additional $1.6 billion to Wisconsin;
  • Provides a one-time $8 million investment for WEDC to award to organizations focused on local or regional economic development;

    Promotes entrepreneurship in underserved communities, including minority and women-owned businesses, with $10 million in direct investment activity;

  • Supports tribal economic development by providing $780,000 in tribal gaming revenue over the biennium to support business and communities among Wisconsin’s 11 federally recognized Native Nations.

We urge for the majority to cancel the JFC hearing scheduled for today at 11 to at the very least wait for more guidance from the Treasury Department before rushing this process. Wisconsin can wait to get this right.
