Milwaukee – U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, May 26 to meet with workforce development organizations, business and labor leaders, and state and local officials to discuss the American Jobs Plan. The plan would invest $100 billion to support workforce development and create millions of good-paying union jobs in states like Wisconsin and across the nation.

At an event co-hosted by the Milwaukee Area Labor Council and Voces de la Frontera, the secretary will visit with immigrant essential workers for a roundtable discussion. The six essential workers, union members and immigrant rights activists will highlight the need for the Biden administration to deliver a pathway to citizenship as part of a comprehensive response to the pandemic crisis.

Eduardo Perea, an immigrant essential worker from Milwaukee who will be meeting with Secretary Walsh said, “I’ve called Wisconsin home for 33 years, and work in construction. Immigrant essential workers like myself struggle. During this pandemic we have been on the frontlines, putting ourselves and our loved ones at risk. Immigrant essential workers deserve the necessary resources to continue doing our jobs, and safely. My whole life in this country I’ve been waiting for lawmakers to act and pass legislation to protect undocumented immigrants. President Biden and Democrats: act now and deliver on the long overdue promise of citizenship.”

The dialogue will end with an official ribbon cutting to inaugurate Voces de la Frontera’s new building at the location they are meeting in.
