The Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Coalition of Wisconsin hosted a rally at Milwaukee City Hall, Thursday (March 18) – following the Atlanta spa shootings on Wednesday that left eight dead, including six individuals of Asian descent. I am calling for the full rejection of all acts of racial terrorism and I proudly stand with the AAPI community and the rest of the world in denouncing hatred and violence that is racially motivated.

Since March 19, 2020, the Stop AAPI Hate group has recorded 3,292 anti-Asian hate incidents from all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Any acts of racism are unacceptable in our community and it is time to address the violence and harassment that directly affects minority groups across the nation. The violent attacks that occurred Wednesday tragically demonstrate the daily reality for many communities of color in our country and our world. There is an urgent need for reform to create a society where our diversity is not only respected, but celebrated.

The strength and solidarity against hatred and violence that I saw at the City Hall event yesterday further demonstrates that the time is now to create a better, safer, and more just country for our families, neighbors and communities.
