MILWAUKEE- Today the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors adopted [11-6] the 2022 Milwaukee County budget. Five amendments sponsored by Supervisor Sequanna Taylor were adopted as part of the budget.
“While there is still more work to still be done, I thank the colleagues that supported amendments that I brought forward. I look forward to what we will be able to accomplish through these initiatives,” said Supervisor Sequanna Taylor. “I brought forward amendments after I was able to talk to the community and residents in my district and I’m committed to continue to advocate, work for, and work with the community on their issues and concerns. Thank you to everyone who called, emailed, commented, and attended meetings on the Milwaukee County Budget. This process shouldn’t be done without the input of the public to remain reflective and inclusive”
Supervisor Taylor’s adopted amendments focused on supporting reentry programs, housing support, youth programs, and other human needs initiatives and include:
- Requesting the District Attorney’s Office, in conjunction with the Office of the Sheriff and Combined Court Related Operations, develop a no questions asked gun buyback program that incentivizes residents to turn in guns.
- Ensuring a staff consultant in the new Office of Equity is dedicated to working towards addressing racial inequities in Milwaukee County exclusively for the benefit of the African American community.
- Including the County Board as a community work experience site for youth employed through the City of Milwaukee Earn and Learn program.
- Appropriating $150,000 for planning, design, and replacement of the McGovern Senior Center roof.
- Requesting the Housing Division and House of Correction work with network emergency shelter providers funded by Milwaukee County to ensure that 30% of emergency shelter beds are dedicated to women transitioning into the community from incarceration.
County Executive David Crowley has until Friday, November 12 to issue vetoes. If the County Executive issues any vetoes, the Board will convene on Monday, November 15.
