MILWAUKEE (March 25, 2021) — Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) has announced the return of interscholastic athletics this spring following the Milwaukee Board of School Directors’ approval for students to return to in-person learning in April.
Spring sports include: baseball, softball, boys golf, boys tennis, boys and girls track & field, and girls soccer. All spring sports teams will practice and compete outdoors. Visit mpsmke.com/athletics to see the start dates for practice and competition for each sport.
“We are thrilled to announce a safe return to competition this spring,” MPS Superintendent Dr. Keith P. Posley said. “Athletics are an integral extension of the classroom, and we look forward to watching our student-athletes safely compete, build relationships, and create lifelong memories.”
All academically eligible high school students may participate in spring sports.
MPS has developed a Return-to-Play Game Plan to ensure the safety of student-athletes, coaches, officials, event staff, and spectators. Safety protocols will be followed by each of our conference schools in order to safely operate, including mask-wearing and regular sanitizing.
During the spring regular season, teams will compete against fellow MPS City Conference members. Teams will only compete against non-MPS schools if they qualify for Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) postseason play.
Families and their student-athletes should visit mpsmke.com/athletics to register for sports prior to the start of spring practice.
