MILWAUKEE, WI – As publicly elected leaders of Milwaukee County, the City of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Public Schools, we call on Senator Ron Johnson to cancel his Milwaukee press conference on Monday, June 28 and end his disinformation campaign about COVID-19 vaccinations.
The county, city, and public school systems are deeply concerned about the well-being of the people we represent. We’ve been working with health care providers, non-profit organizations, and faith-based communities to promote vaccinations and are dismayed that Sen. Johnson is undermining such efforts.
Johnson’s disinformation campaign will discourage vaccinations. This is reckless and threatens the health and lives of our entire community.
The Milwaukee Public Schools, for instance, is working hard to ensure that its 70,000+ students safely return to in-person learning in August. Vaccination of staff, students, families and all community members is essential to this effort.
On June 23, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and a dozen major medical organizations issued a statement saying that getting vaccinated is the “best way to protect yourself, your loved ones, your community, and to return to a more normal lifestyle safely and quickly.”
And yet Senator Johnson repeatedly questions the safety of COVID vaccinations. Earlier this month, he was booted off YouTube for violating their medical misinformation policies. Johnson’s disinformation campaign will discourage vaccinations. This is reckless and threatens the health and lives of our entire community.
Senator Johnson: Do what is best for the people of Milwaukee and the entire state. Cancel your press conference. Promote vaccinations. End your disinformation campaign.
