Appleton, WI – Today, Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael, and William Bryan Jr. were found guilty on murder charges in the killing of Ahmaud Arbery. U.S. Senate candidate Tom Nelson released the following statement:

“Ahmaud Arbery was a young man with a dream of attending technical college and becoming an electrician. That dream died the same day that Ahmaud did, shot down for jogging through a predominantly white neighborhood and looking inside a house that was under construction. Ahmaud was unarmed. The absurd actions of three men who felt empowered to make a ‘citizen’s arrest’ were obviously racially motivated. In yet another instance of vigilantism by armed citizens, a young American has been killed. The verdict released today is a start for our justice system in sending a clear message that vigilantism is unacceptable. It also sends a message that violence against people of color will not be tolerated and that message needs to be understood by every American, regardless of their political party. We are long overdue in establishing an American justice system that is truly blind with respect to race, instead of one that is blind to racism and racially motivated crimes.”
