MADISON, Wis. — Ryan Owens, Republican candidate for Attorney General, announces that he has received the full endorsements of four recent Wisconsin Supreme Court Justices, as well as three former Republican Assembly Speakers.
Former Speakers Mike Huebsch (2007-2009), John Gard (2003-2007), and David Prosser (1995-1997) announce their support for Owens.
John Gard was a Green Bay area legislator for nearly 20 years and is joined by longtime La Crosse area legislator Mike Huebsch. In 2010, following his time as Assembly Speaker, Governor Scott Walker appointed Huebsch as Secretary of the Department of Administration. Huebsch continued his public service when in 2015 he was appointed to the Public Service Commission.
Owens has also received the support of four former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justices: Justice Dan Kelly (2016-2020), Justice Michael Gableman (2008-2018), Justice David Prosser (1998-2016), and Justice Jon Wilcox (1992-2007).
“Ryan Owens is a good, family man who loves Wisconsin. He is a lawyer, a teacher, and a constitutional expert who will always defend our freedoms and the rule of law. I’m honored to support Ryan Owens for Attorney General,” said Former Justice Dan Kelly.
Former Justice Michael Gableman, who also served as Ashland County District Attorney and Circuit Court Judge, wrote extensively about his support of Owens in a Wisconsin State Journal op-ed: “Law enforcement needs our support. Our next attorney general must not only respect law enforcement but also stand up for them. Ryan will be that leader. He listens, builds trust, and acts decisively. He will give law enforcement, and everyone in our communities, a square deal.”
Joining Kelly and Gableman is Former Justice David Prosser, a former Assembly Speaker and 17 year veteran of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Prosser, when discussing his relationship and support for Owens says, “Ryan Owens is an impressive leader. From the time I first met him in Governor Tommy Thompson’s legal office to his present role as a heralded professor at UW-Madison, Ryan has stood out as someone who truly understands our system of government and knows how to make it work for all Wisconsinites. Ryan is fully committed to freedom, fairness, and the rule of law. That is why I am honored to endorse and support Ryan Owens for Attorney General.”
Former Justice Jon Wilcox, who also served as a Circuit Court Chief Judge and state representative, echoed the support of his colleagues for Owens sharing, “Ryan Owens is a man of great integrity and principles. As Attorney General, I trust him to manage the Department of Justice. He has my endorsement and my full support.”
These endorsements come as Owens continues to travel to every corner of the state and meet with voters to discuss his vision for leading the Wisconsin Department of Justice and Josh Kaul’s failed leadership. “I’m running to stand up for the rule of law and against a growing intolerance. We need an Attorney General who will defend freedom against those who attack it, defend law enforcement, and end the recklessness we see. Together, we can create a safer, freer, and more prosperous Wisconsin,” concluded Ryan Owens.
