Polls are open in the special election for the 37th AD covering parts of Dodge, Dane, Columbus and Jefferson counties.
Republicans are looking to keep control of the seat, after former GOP state Rep. John Jagler won a special election for a Senate seat in April. Republican William Penterman, Dem Pete Adams and independent Stephen Ratzlaff Jr are on today’s ballot in the conservative seat.
Adams, 46, is a central service technician at a hospital in Beaver Dam who said he’s running because he wants to work on more bipartisan policies and end the “gridlock” in the Legislature.
Penterman, 25, is the youngest candidate in the race. The Columbus resident currently serves in the U.S. Army Reserve but he previously worked as an aide in the state Assembly under Rep. Ron Tusler, R-Harrison.
Ratzlaff, 50, is a furniture sales professional at Steinhafels Superstore in Madison. He lives in DeForest.
