MADISON – Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairperson Rebecca Cameron Valcq issued the following statement below regarding Governor Tony Evers signing the 2021-2023 State Biennial Budget:
“I want to thank Governor Evers for signing a budget that invests $129 million for the expansion of broadband internet in Wisconsin. Although the Governor’s original budget requested $200 million—nearly quadrupling what was approved in the last state budget and which would have been the largest state investment in state history—$129 million still represents an historic investment for broadband expansion grants. Governor Evers continues to put the needs and priorities of Wisconsinites first.
As was highlighted in the recently released report from the Governor’s Task Force on Broadband Access, infrastructure is only part of the solution to connecting everyone to high-speed internet; affordability is just as important.
As we continue to push towards the goal of getting all in Wisconsin connected by 2025, the PSC and the State Broadband Office will utilize these dollars effectively and efficiently, while maintaining our high standards of accountability and transparency.”
