Public Health Madison & Dane County has updated the Dane County COVID-19 data dashboard with more vaccine-related data. Vaccine data are updated on Wednesdays and Fridays each week.
The dashboard is available at https://publichealthmdc.com/
The landing page of the dashboard now includes a vaccine tracker that shows how many people have received at least one dose of vaccine in Dane County. As of 2/3, 11.4% of the county had received at least one dose. Users can click icons to see information about people vaccinated, as well as vaccination dose trends.
“The data that are requested the most from us right now are COVID-19 vaccine data,” said Katarina Grande, Public Health Supervisor and Data Team Lead. “We hope this new information helps the public track vaccine progress more easily. The fact that over 11% of people already have at least some vaccine immunity is incredibly hopeful, and we want to highlight that.”
Vaccine data are pulled from the Wisconsin Immunization Registry, or WIR, and shared with Public Health by the Department of Health Services. These data are entered into WIR by vaccinators—which includes thousands of clinics, pharmacies, and public health sites across the state.
Demographic data may be limited and have some errors; race/ethnicity data in WIR are not routinely double checked or updated every time someone receives a vaccine. Despite these limitations, it is important to show demographic data to highlight potential inequities in vaccine distribution.
“Right now, the demographics of people vaccinated reflects who is eligible to get a vaccine, such as health care workers,” continued Grande. “As vaccines are becoming more available to others in the community, we hope to see the vaccinated population match the overall Dane County population, with a focus on disproportionately impacted populations.”
