Madison, WI – Today, Rep. Rachael Cabral-Guevara (R-Fox Crossing) introduced a resolution declaring January 24th, 2021 to January 30th, 2021 “School Choice Week.” Rep. Cabral-Guevara issued the following statement:

“Since the school choice program first launched in 1990, it always had one goal: to give students the opportunity to be the best they can be,” said Rep. Cabral-Guevara.

The Wisconsin School Choice Program began in Milwaukee as a means to aid low-income families wishing to choose where to send their children to school. In 2011, the school choice program expanded to Racine, and then statewide in 2013. The program now serves more than 45,000 students annually across the state.

“As a former educator and mother of four, I understand the need for students to grow in the best environment for them. One approach towards education may not always the best approach,” added Rep. Cabral-Guevara. “On top of that, someone’s wallet should not be the determining factor on whether parents choose to send their kids to a public, private, or charter school.”

The assembly joint resolution would declare January 24th – January 30th of 2021 “School Choice Week” and recognize “the importance of giving parents the choice in the educational path for their children.”
