[Madison, WI] – State Representative Calvin Callahan (R-Tomahawk) issued the following statement regarding the conclusion of the Legislative Audit Bureau’s investigation into the November 2020 election and the Racine County Sheriff’s investigation:
“I’ve spoken with many constituents from around the 35th Assembly District about what happened during the 2020 election. With the recent report from the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau and the subsequent information released from the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, we can now see that the Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) has turned into a rogue agency, breaking state election laws and twisting the rules as they see fit.
“Under state law, Special Voting Deputies (SVDs) and family are the only ones able to assist folks in care facilities with filling out a ballot. Local clerks appoint the SVDs and are required to have individuals from both parties. The WEC has tried restricting SVDs from entering care facilities in the past without legislative approval.
“Today, I demand the resignation of the WEC’s administrator, Meagan Wolfe. The mismanagement of the agency and plain disregard for our state’s election laws has gone on for long enough. It’s time she is held accountable. She needs to step aside for someone who will follow state election law. We need to prevent these issues from ever happening again, and a new administrator will be a great step towards restoring faith in our state election processes.”
