Madison – Tonight Governor Tony Evers delivered a speech introducing the 2021-2023 Biennial Budget. This budget makes crucial investments in mental health, agriculture, rural communities, and our children. Rep. Dave Considine (D-Baraboo) issued the following statement following the budget address:

“Tonight, we heard Governor Evers lead as he introduced the next state budget. He spoke about the worrisome past year that we’ve had. He also spoke about how we can forge a new path as we recover and bounce back better than before.

“Governor Evers highlighted how we can adhere to our values as we bounce back from COVID-19. He did this tonight by introducing a budget that invests in our communities and businesses through an unprecedented $200 million investment in WEDC programs. He also did this through the commitment to fund rural schools by allocating $20 million to school sparsity aid. He exemplified our Wisconsin values through providing an additional $15 million for the Treatment Alternatives and Diversion program so it can expand statewide. He also did this by expanding the Opening Avenues to Reentry Success program, which provides wraparound services to individuals in need of mental health support.

“There are many things I advocated for that were included in this budget. Among those, I am proud to see Governor Evers once again making important investments in the mental health of our communities, our agricultural economy, our children, and much more. I look forward to receiving the full budget in the coming days. I am eager to hear from you about your thoughts on this budget as well.
