Madison, WI – During the Assembly floor session on Tuesday, Rep. Cindi Duchow (R-Delafield) honored Dr. Mark “Doc” Schultz, as the First Responder of the Year for the 99th Assembly District. In addition to serving as the Assistant Fire Chief for the Village of Merton, Dr. Schultz also works as an Emergency Room Doctor at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

“To say that Dr. Schultz is a hometown hero is an understatement,” said Rep. Duchow. “Dr. Schultz has shown a dedication to the safety and wellbeing for Waukesha County residents that goes above and beyond, and he is truly deserving of this award”

Dr. Schultz played a vital role in Waukesha County’s COVID-19 response by assisting in the creation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines and purchasing PPE out of pocket for his agencies. These efforts also earned Dr. Schultz the Waukesha County Fire Officer of the Year award in 2020.

“The past year and a half has been stressful for all of our first responders and this honor is just a small way for us to say ‘thank you’ to those who continue to serve our communities,” said Rep. Duchow. “The commitment of first responders throughout the state is truly inspirational.”

Following the ceremony recognizing the First Responder of the Year honorees, the state Assembly also passed a resolution declaring October 28th First Responders Appreciation Day.
