MADISON – Today, Governor Tony Evers delivered his second budget address to the Wisconsin State Legislature. Representative Jodi Emerson (D-Eau Claire) issued the following statement in response:

“I am proud to support Gov. Evers’ budget proposal and his Badger Bounceback agenda. Throughout the crisis our state has endured this past year, I have been inspired by the resilience, compassion, and courage shown by many Wisconsinites. After all we’ve been through together, it’s time now to not only recover but to bounce back better than before.”

Gov. Evers’ budget proposal includes provisions that support small businesses and economic development, expand BadgerCare, increase access to mental and behavioral health services, invest in child care and long-term care, legalize and tax marijuana, and reduce prescription drug prices.

“Governor Evers understands the importance of investing in our state’s small businesses and agriculture if our economy is to thrive. I also support Governor Evers’ blueprint to help relieve some of the financial stresses on our communities, by expanding affordable healthcare access, reducing prescription prices, and creating new streams of revenue for Wisconsin, like marijuana taxes. As we emerge from the COVID-19 crisis under Governor Evers’ strong leadership, Wisconsin’s future remains bright.”
