Urges Legislative Republicans to take quick action, bring in federal dollars for Wisconsin

MADISON – Today, Governor Evers called for a special session to expand BadgerCare in Wisconsin. Representative Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) issued the following statement:

“I commend Governor Evers for putting the people of Wisconsin first, by calling a special session to expand BadgerCare in Wisconsin and save taxpayers money. I urge my Republican colleagues in the legislature to provide our constituents with the same program, access, and federal funding, that every single neighboring state (MN, MI, IA, IN, IL) provides to their residents. Red states and blue states (38 of 50) alike have recognized the benefits of making healthcare more affordable and accessible and receiving significant federal funding.  In Wisconsin, that would benefit more than 90,000 Wisconsinites and save $624 million in state taxpayer dollars.”

“Punishing the people of Wisconsin because Republicans don’t like Governor Evers or former President Barack Obama needs to stop.  We know Wisconsinites strongly support expanding BadgerCare, so let’s finally get it done in this special session. There is no legitimate reason why Wisconsin shouldn’t take advantage of BadgerCare expansion.”
