La Crosse, WI— Last month, Rep. Ron Kind voted to pass the American Rescue Plan, which took historic steps to make health insurance coverage more affordable for people across the country. Today, Rep. Kind is encouraging individuals and families across Wisconsin to take advantage of the new savings available for health insurance coverage through HealthCare.Gov.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of access to high quality and affordable health care. The American Rescue Plan builds on the Affordable Care Act by lowering the cost of health insurance coverage for millions of Americans,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “Now, thousands of Wisconsinites will be able to access high quality health care coverage at an affordable price. Whether individuals and families are looking to purchase health insurance for the first time or already have coverage through the ACA Marketplace, they should visit HealthCare.gov on April 1 to access additional savings.”

Under the American Rescue Plan, Wisconsinites who purchase their health insurance coverage through the ACA Marketplace won’t have to pay more than 8.5 percent of their income for a benchmark silver plan. For some people in Wisconsin, health insurance coverage will be available for free. For Wisconsin, the America Rescue Plan will:

  • Reduce the cost of health insurance premiums for Wisconsinites who purchase health care coverage through the ACA Marketplace. For example, a 60-year-old couple earning $75,000 could save as much as $1,410 a month on their premiums.
  • Make health insurance coverage available for free to the 31,600 Wisconsinites earning between 100 – 150 percent of the federal poverty level.
  • Create new subsidies to help 51,900 uninsured people in Wisconsin access health care coverage at an affordable price.
  • Help Wisconsinites who lost their job during the pandemic maintain access to health care coverage by making additional subsidies available to people who received unemployment compensation during 2021.

The American Rescue Plan made the most significant investments in reducing the number of uninsured people in the United States and achieving universal health care coverage since the passage of the Affordable Care Act. From April 1 through August 15, individuals and families will be able to access additional savings on their health insurance coverage though HealthCare.gov. New and existing customers can visit HealthCare.Gov/More-Savings for additional information.

Rep. Kind serves on the Subcommittee on Health for the Ways and Means Committee, the most powerful – and the oldest – committee in the House of Representatives. It has jurisdiction over tax measures, the management of public debt, trade and tariff laws, Social Security, Medicare, pensions, and many other economic growth measures.
