Washington, DC –  Today, Rep. Ron Kind is highlighting a new “Get My Payment” tool from IRS.gov where Wisconsinites can check the status of their Economic Impact Payment. With the passage of the American Rescue Plan, 89 percent of Wisconsin adults are set to receive a relief check of up to $1,400 per person and money is already beginning to be directly deposited into bank accounts this week.

“Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, relief checks are on their way to Wisconsin families to help pay bills, put food on the table, and provide some certainty during these uncertain times. In fact, some people may have already received their payment,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “As this money continues to show up in bank accounts, I want to make sure everyone has the information they need regarding their $1,400 relief check.”

  • How to Check the Status of your Payment: Rep. Kind is encouraging Wisconsinites to go online and check the status of their payment using the “Get My Payment” tool from the IRS at: https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment.
  • What to Expect: Wisconsinites could start seeing payments show up in their bank accounts as soon as this week if their 2019 or 2020 taxes have been processed by the IRS or if they used the “non-filer portal” for previous payments and provided their bank account information to the IRS. Recipients of other federal government benefits, like Social Security, Railroad Retirement Board, Supplemental Security Income, or Veterans Affairs benefits, should expect to receive a payment automatically as well. For Wisconsinites awaiting a paper check or debit card, while some checks have been mailed already, most will find their paper checks or debit cards in the mail over the next several weeks.
  • How Many Wisconsinites Will Get Payments: According to the White House, more than 3.8 million adults and 1.3 million children in Wisconsin are eligible to receive payments of up to $1,400 per person through the American Rescue Plan that Rep. Kind helped pass into law. That means 89 percent of all Wisconsin adults and 88 percent of all Wisconsin children in the state are set to receive payments.
  • Who is Eligible for Payments: The American Rescue Plan that Rep. Kind worked to pass into law included Economic Impact Payments of up to $1,400 per person. Combined with the $600 down payments enacted in December, these additional checks will fulfill the promise to put $2,000 in Wisconsinites’ pockets. Individuals earning up to $75,000 annually, heads of household earning up to $112,500 annually, and couples earning up to $150,000 annually will receive the full $1,400 per person, for themselves and their dependents of all ages, including college students, children over the age of 17, and adults with disabilities. After that, checks begin to phase out, with payments stopping at individuals earning $80,000 in annual income, heads of household earning $120,000 in annual income and married couples earning $160,000 in annual income.

Rep. Kind serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means. The committee is the most powerful – and the oldest – committee in the House of Representatives. It has jurisdiction over trade and tariff laws, as well as many other economic growth measures.
