“The Stronger Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act would  reauthorize critical programs under the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act to prevent and address child abuse and neglect.

I am pleased to support this legislation, which includes language from my bill, the Poverty is Not Child Neglect Act, that aims to ensure that families are not separated because of poverty, rather than actual neglect or abuse. We must guarantee families receive the resources they need rather than be separated because they are poor. The comprehensive bill also includes language that I have worked on to help identify the prevalence of child marriage in our country, including forced child marriages.

I am pleased that this bipartisan bill passed the House easily today with strong support from both parties. Our country is stronger when the most vulnerable can thrive, which is why we must continue supporting and uplifting America’s children.”
