MADISON, WI – Today, the Wisconsin Assembly Committee on State Affairs and the Senate Committee on Government Operations, Legal Review and Consumer Protection met in a joint public hearing on AB 624/SB 621 and AB 625/SB 622, Republican-sponsored bills that would redraw Wisconsin’s legislative districts. Rep. Greta Neubauer issued the following statement in response:

“Today, we heard from the people of Wisconsin. They told the legislature, loud and clear, that they want fair, nonpartisan legislative maps, and the maps proposed in AB 624 and 625 do not meet that standard. As I’ve said before, the Republican-drawn maps in AB 624 and 625 explicitly work to maintain the partisan, gerrymandered maps enacted under Scott Walker — maps that radically reworked Wisconsin’s political landscape and cemented single-party rule in the legislature.

“In the end, one principle must be central to this process: people should choose their politicians, instead of politicians choosing their people. Wisconsinites deserve fair, transparent, nonpartisan electoral maps, not gerrymandering 2.0.”
