MADISON- State Representative Timothy Ramthun (R-Campbellsport) issued the following statement regarding Governor Evers’ budget proposal:

“Unsurprisingly, Gov. Evers’ desires were filled with unrealistic spending hikes and unacceptable tax increases. His budget address sounded more like a campaign speech than a budget proposal. I wanted to draw attention to some of the worst of the worst:”

  • Nearly 10% increase in spending, equivalent to over $8 billion
  • $1 billion in new taxes
  • Enrollment caps on school choice
  • Repealing Act 10 & Right to Work
  • Legalization of marijuana for recreational use

“This is a complete non-starter for me. The Joint Finance Committee should start from scratch and rebuild the budget in a fiscally responsible manner. State spending needs to be thoroughly reviewed and reduced where surpluses currently exist.”

“Simply starting from where we’re at and increasing percentages across the board is not fiscally sound. The people of our state need tax relief after a year of government restrictions. The last thing they need is the government taking even more from them. I’m hopeful the Republican-led Legislature will develop a budget that is far more sensible.”
