MADISON – Following Governor Tony Evers’ 2021-23 state budget address, Rep. Katrina Shankland (D-Stevens Point) released the following statement:

“Tonight, Governor Evers delivered a strong state budget address that meets the current moment with thoughtfulness and urgency. The governor’s budget makes meaningful investments that will make a real difference for individuals, families, businesses, schools, and communities across Wisconsin. Over the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has underscored and sometimes exacerbated the challenges we are all facing, and I appreciate the steps Governor Evers has outlined to guide us along the road to recovery.

“I know the last 11 months have been incredibly difficult for the people of Wisconsin. Many have faced significant challenges, and we are all hoping for a swift end to the pandemic. The governor’s Badger Bounceback plan will support our small businesses and protect local jobs, and it gives me hope for a strong economic recovery.

“I was particularly excited to see many of the issues I have championed in the Legislature addressed in the governor’s budget. Whether investing in broadband, making college more affordable, capping the price of life-saving prescriptions like insulin, fixing our unemployment system, expanding clean energy in Wisconsin, or supporting farmers and water quality, I am excited to advocate for our shared priorities in the state budget.

“Governor Evers has provided us with a strong starting point, and my legislative colleagues and I now have the tremendous opportunity and responsibility to advance these critical investments through the budget process. I look forward to the budget process ahead and greatly appreciate Governor Evers’ steady leadership.”
