Madison- State Representative Tyler Vorpagel (R-Plymouth) issued the following statement after Governor Evers’ State of the State Address:
“This evening Assembly Republicans convened in our chambers to listen to Governor Evers give his annual State of the State address virtually.
“After a difficult ten months of the pandemic, our state is slowly improving. I’m incredibly proud of our Wisconsin communities and how they have come together to help each other. In a difficult year, I’ve watched constituents and businesses in my district be extremely innovative to keep their businesses open. That being said, I still am disappointed in how the Evers’ administration has continued to respond to the massive backlog in Unemployment Insurance claims at a time when getting these people money to pay their bills is so important. It was disappointing tonight to hear the Governor attempt to shift the blame for the short comings of his administration.
“To keep Wisconsin moving forward we need to find creative solutions, just like folks in the private sector have. Being in divided government should not mean that we aren’t working together to find solutions to issues that face Wisconsin, particularly in the middle of a pandemic. Despite the Governor’s address tonight, I’m still hopeful that the Governor’s office will realize how important it is to come to the table and have these difficult conversations to find common ground.
“As I’ve said in the past, I’m always here to listen and I encourage my constituents to reach out on their views after the Governor’s address this evening. I’m here to keep Wisconsin moving forward and be a good steward of the taxpayer dollars by continuing to rebuild our economy after the past year.”
