(Chippewa Falls)… In the aftermath of the press conference held yesterday by Racine County Sheriff Schmaling, Senator Kathy Bernier (R-Chippewa Falls) released the following statement:

“I would like to thank the Racine County Sheriff’s Department for taking voter fraud seriously. This is the first case of law enforcement doing what we have urged since November of 2020: finding specific violations of the law and bringing them forward for DAs or the AG to charge. What Sergeant Luell uncovered was the reason why we set up Special Voting Deputies in the first place. The law is there to protect the vulnerable. The law did not fail to protect the vulnerable. Those who ignored the law did, including the Wisconsin Election Commissioners.

“If Ann Jacobs (Chair of the Elections Commission) is so proud of her guidance, rather than rules, then she would have made sure they provided clear guidance, training and penalty toward nursing home staff that ended up assisting residents, and ultimately abusing them.

“The fault lies with the Wisconsin Elections Commission. The six members of the commission, partisans from the left and the right, have caused gridlock on enough important issues to render the commission nearly pointless. The staff, including Administrator Wolfe, are hamstrung by an ineffective commission that was set up to fail.

“It is worth mentioning that the Legislature put forward a solution to this nightmare in Senate Bill 205. The Governor, in lockstep with his rabid partisan allies, vetoed that solution. He doesn’t seem to care at all about election integrity.

“I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: If we want election integrity in Wisconsin, either the Governor must change his mind or we must change the Governor.
