Madison, WI – Following Senator Jon Erpenbach’s (D-Madison) announcement that he will not seek re-election, Senate Democratic Leader Janet Bewley (D-Mason) released the following statement:

“As the second most senior member of our Caucus, Senator Erpenbach will be missed tremendously.  In addition to the wisdom he brings from his years of experience in the State Capitol, Jon’s humor could always be counted on to provide a much-needed perspective to our caucus, the often contentious Joint Finance Committee deliberations, and on the floor of the Senate.

“I have appreciated and benefited from the knowledge that Jon has accumulated over the years, especially his unwavering commitment to the integrity of the institution. His counsel has been invaluable, both when I started in the Senate in 2014 and especially when I took over as Minority Leader in 2020.  Jon has been a clear and consistent voice for protecting public health, environmental issues, our children’s education, and the UW System.  While I am sorry to see him go, I wish him the best of luck in whatever cause he picks up next.”
