MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin State Senate passed a resolution, authored by Senator Steve Nass, R–Whitewater, and co-authored by Senator Julian Bradley, R–Franklin, on Tuesday that would end Governor Evers’ public health emergency order, including the mask mandate.
“For too long, Governor Evers has acted like a dictator, illegally and unilaterally enacting health policy for the entire state,” Senator Bradley said.
“All summer and fall, I heard from people who were tired of the governor’s unconstitutional overreach. Now that I’ve been sworn in and pushing with liberty-minded champions like Senator Nass, the Senate finally stood up and got results for the many Wisconsin families who say enough is enough.”
Per Wisconsin law, a governor’s health emergency powers are only allowed for 60 days. After that, he or she must ask the Legislature to either extend the emergency or work with them to enact long-term health policies. Senator Bradley still encourages people to be responsible, wear masks in public, and practice social distancing.
Senate Joint Resolution 3 now goes to the Wisconsin State Assembly for consideration. Once passed, it does not need sign-off from Governor Evers to go into effect.
Senator Bradley represents the 28th Senate District, which includes portions of Milwaukee, Racine, Walworth, and Waukesha counties.
