ICYMI: Sen. Johnson on WFRV’s ‘Newsmaker Sunday’ Show

Discusses Biden’s spending boondoggle, Wisconsinites getting back to work, crisis at the border

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) joined Tom Zalaski on WFRV’s “Newsmaker Sunday” show to discuss the Biden administration’s massive spending packages, worker shortages, and the crisis at the border.

A video of the interview can be found here, and excerpts are below.

On Biden’s spending boondoggle:

“We’re over 28 trillion dollars in debt. Seven hundred twenty billion dollars of that one 1.9 trillion dollar package isn’t even scheduled to be spent until the out years in 2022 through 2028 – it’s obviously not Covid relief. So again, this was one more massive spending boondoggle, we didn’t need it. What we should have done at that point in time was repurpose the trillion dollars that was unspent that will eventually get spent on something, but not necessarily Covid relief.”

On Wisconsinites getting back to work:

“The unemployment rate in Wisconsin is 3.8 percent. I don’t think ever in the history Wisconsin or history of the U.S. has the federal government plussed up unemployment – state unemployment – when you had unemployment levels that low, and the fact the matter is literally, except for the very brief period of time of the Covid recession,  the biggest problem Wisconsin manufacturers and businesses have is they can’t find enough workers. That was before the Covid recession and certainly afterwards, so right now the biggest problem hampering our economic recovery is that businesses, both manufacturers and also service businesses can’t hire enough workers.”

On crisis at the border:

“We do have a crisis on our hands and, Tom, it’s actually what I didn’t see that’s more concerning. Again, we certainly saw evidence  of the fact that over the last couple months, Border Patrol is apprehending about 6,000 people – per day. Basically turning them in to utilize and exploit our very generous asylum laws and broken immigration system. Of course, what we don’t see is all the human depredations of the human traffickers. The fact of the matter is, this is a multi-billion dollar business model of some of the most evil people on the planet. And President Biden and Vice President Harris know exactly what  these human traffickers do, they sell children.”
