Senator Steve Nass (R-Whitewater) issued the following statement tonight in response to Governor Evers budget address and release of his 2021-23 biennial budget proposal:

“Governor Evers budget proposal is a Trojan horse filled with some of the most extreme fiscal and policy proposals. Many of the provisions in this budget were written by leftwing extremists and special interests groups that have bought influence with this administration.

Overall this budget does nothing but increase costs for families, taxpayers and small businesses. Evers wants higher local sales taxes, dramatic increases in energy costs and an overall increase in state taxes of more than $1 billion based on initial estimates.

Even worse, the Governor does the bidding of the teachers union and calls for eliminating Act 10, such a move would significantly increase property taxes. Elimination of Act 10 would increase the power of local teachers unions to block the reopening of our schools to in person classes.

The legislature must reject Evers radical budget and work to develop a spending plan that best reflects the hardworking people of Wisconsin.”
