Senator Steve Nass (R-Whitewater) issued the following statement today regarding Assembly Speaker Robin Vos finally deciding to get involved in ending the most recent unlawful emergency declaration issued by Governor Evers and further amending Assembly Bill 1 to limit the powers of Evers, while maintaining eligibility for federal aid:

“It is great news that Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has finally decided to get involved in ending Governor Evers abuse of emergency declarations that started in July 2020.

I would remind Speaker Vos that it was the State Senate Republicans that have been prepared to act on passing the necessary joint resolution to end these unlawful actions since early August 2020.

I would additionally remind Speaker Vos that many senators including myself warned the Assembly that there would be potential consequences for failing to act immediately in August 2020.

I would further remind Speaker Vos that it was his opposition to calling an extraordinary session in 2020 for the legislature to act that has created many of the issues we now face in finally applying the rule of law.

If appearing to dominate the State Senate is what it takes for Speaker Vos to finally join the State Senate in fighting to end the unlawful acts of Governor Evers, so be it.  It is time to get this done and stop pretending that the delay in acting in 2020 didn’t cause harm.”
