Senator Steve Nass (R-Whitewater), Co-chairman of the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules (JCRAR), released the following statement in response to the UW System’s announcement that they will be using Biden’s federal executive order as an excuse to advance a Covid-19 vaccination mandate.  The System is trying to hide details of this decision as long as possible to avoid potential litigation:

“Today’s announcement from the UW System is just another deceitful action by a state agency that has a clear purpose of avoiding compliance with state law to protect their excessive Covid-19 mandates and now adopt vaccination requirements.

The actions of the UW System on Covid-19 are not about the science or public health.  Rather, the UW System leadership has now aligned itself with the Biden Administration’s Covid-19 politics.

The UW System is not merely refusing to follow state law, it is an agency brazenly defying the constitutional authority of the Legislature.  If the UW System is allowed to act unlawfully simply because it’s temporarily under the leadership of a former Republican governor, then members of the majority party in the legislature are not committed to the rule of law.

I am once again requesting that Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu commence legal action against the UW System to seek compliance with state law.”
