Gov. Evers Pro-Democracy Budget Sets Stage for Economic Recovery

Madison – Today, Governor Tony Evers delivered his biennial budget address. Sen. Kelda Roys (D-Madison) issued the following statement in response:

“Tonight, Governor Evers outlined his pro-democracy, pro-recovery state budget. This budget reflects Wisconsin values and will help Wisconsin bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.  I applaud the Governor for prioritizing funding high-quality public education, taking steps to address racial disparities and historical inequities, and investing in Wisconsin’s children, caregivers, and democracy.

“I’m pleased Gov. Evers included such widely supported priorities as expanding Badgercare, ensuring paid family leave for state workers, legalizing marijuana, and implementing automatic voter registration. These are popular, common sense, fiscally responsible measures that I have championed for years, and that will make Wisconsin stronger.

“I look forward to advocating for the passage of Gov. Evers’ budget in the coming months. Wisconsin needs this Badger Bounceback Budget to help our communities and families come out of this pandemic stronger.”
