MADISON – Governor Tony Evers delivered the 2021 State of the State Address this evening. Senator Jeff Smith (D – Brunswick) released the following statement in response to the address:

“Governor Tony Evers’ message was one of positivity and optimism, despite the unprecedented challenges we faced in the past year. I appreciate the Governor’s reflections on last year’s accomplishments while identifying the priorities that still have not been met.

“I’m grateful that Governor Evers is committed to addressing many of the inequities that exist in Wisconsin that were made more apparent by the pandemic. I’m especially pleased to see the Governor highlight the “digital divide” impacting our rural communities and declare 2021 the Year of Broadband Access.

“Governor Evers’ accomplishments in the past year were nothing short of admirable in the face of adversity. As the People’s Maps Commission finishes their public hearings, I look forward to the Governor’s leadership to ensure our redistricting process is fair and nonpartisan.

“We are still working to overcome this public health crisis and the many challenges that come with it, but Governor Evers’ outlook to the next year and legislative session instill confidence that we can move forward from this difficult time stronger than ever.”
