Madison, WI – Senator Duey Stroebel again voted in favor of AB 1, a measure that contains numerous COVID-19 relief provisions including a recently added measure authorizing Gov. Tony Evers to declare a state of emergency for the sole purpose of receiving federal FoodShare funds. Sen. Stroebel released the following statement:

“The Senate reached an agreement with Gov. Evers earlier this month, and I supported that measure because it contained critical liability reforms that protect churches, schools and businesses that choose to open their doors. It is important that the threat of frivolous lawsuits does not prevent prudent efforts to return to normal in the months to come.

“Today’s version of the previous bill represents a good-faith effort to bridge the gap with the Assembly. By ensuring that this bill also authorizes Gov. Evers to receive additional federal FoodShare benefit funds we continue to demonstrate our willingness to work with the governor on issues where we share agreement. I hope the governor will continue to work together with us and sign this bill as soon as it reaches his desk.”

Senator Stroebel represents the 20th Senate District which includes parts of Ozaukee, Washington, Fond du Lac, Calumet and Sheboygan Counties.
