Kenosha – State Senator Bob Wirch (D-Somers) issued the following statement after the Republican majority in the State Legislature rejected the Special Session call by Governor Tony Evers to fix the damaged unemployment insurance system:

“I’m disappointed but not surprised.  For the first time in 13 years, we have a Governor who is serious about fixing this outdated 50 year old system.  Instead of actually doing something productive, Republicans offer non-solutions in an attempt to score cheap political points against the Governor.  I’ve seen the damage that this broken system has done to families in my district; my office heard from hundreds of people whose claims were held up simply because of the antiquated system. Republicans had the Governor’s office for eight years; they’ve had control of the Joint Finance Committee for ten.  During that time, a report from the Audit Bureau raised red flags on this system, and they chose to do nothing.  People are still suffering, and they continue to play politics.”
