Seven candidates will compete Tuesday in a statewide primary for the state schools superintendent post. The top two vote-getters will advance to the April 6 general election to select the new head of the state Department of Public Instruction. The current DPI chief, Carolyn Stanford Taylor, declined to seek election to a full four-year term.
