Madison – Today, Republicans on the legislature’s Joint Finance Committee are poised to ignore months of public testimony and support for Governor Evers’ Badger Bounce Back Budget, and remove 380 popular and important provisions from the budget. Sen. Kelda Roys made the following statement in response to their expected action:

“Republicans legislators are dangerously out of touch with Wisconsinites. For months, citizens have made their voices heard through public hearings, writing and calling legislative offices, and rallies — they support expanding BadgerCare, increasing educational funding, helping Wisconsinites maintain economic security, ensuring that the wealthiest and big corporations start to pay their fair share, and protecting the freedom to vote.

“Instead of listening to their constituents, Republicans are blasting a $3.4 billion hole in the budget, refusing federal money to expand healthcare access and jobs during a deadly pandemic, and removing broadly popular provisions to help Wisconsin families and small businesses recover. Their actions show that Republican legislators have no interest in governing and no interest in helping Wisconsinites.”
