MADISON – Today, the Wisconsin State Senate Democratic Committee (SSDC) announced that Senators Melissa Agard (D – Madison) and Kelda Roys (D – Madison) are joining the committee as Finance Co-Chairs. In this capacity, both Senators will be working alongside Senate Minority Leader Janet Bewley (D – Mason) and committee staff to both fund the SSDC’s efforts in electing Democrats to the Wisconsin State Senate next year and support candidates in the field.

“I’m so pleased that both Senator Agard and Senator Roys have decided to join our growing team at the SSDC,” said Senator Janet Bewley. “While both Senators are relatively new to our caucus, having been elected in 2020, they have quickly become leading voices on many of the issues facing the State Senate today. They have years of fundraising and political experience and represent the future of the Senate Democrats. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and I know that both of these exemplary Senators are up to the task.”

“The last year has shown what happens when Republicans govern, policies that perpetuate mis-information, and create fake outrages,” Senators Agard and Roys said in a joint statement. “It is clear that Senate Republicans are more interested in keeping political power, than actually solving the issues facing Wisconsinites. This needs to end. Electing Democrats will ensure that the will of the people is reflected in the laws coming out of the State Capitol. We are excited to join Senator Bewley and the team at the SSDC. Together we will ensure that State Senate candidates throughout the state have the resources they need to share their message of how to best move Wisconsin forward.”

The appointment of both Senators is effective immediately. Any questions can be directed to Eric LaGesse, Executive Director of the SSDC, at ericl@wisdems.org.
