[OSHKOSH, WI…]  Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz has announced that he is endorsing Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney in his bid to be the next Attorney General.

Sheriff Matz joins more than 60 law enforcement officials who’ve endorsed District Attorney Toney, the only frontline prosecutor in the race for attorney general.

Sheriff Matz said District Attorney Toney was the one candidate to restore law and order in Wisconsin.

“Wisconsin needs a strong attorney general who will work in partnership with local law enforcement to restore law and order to our streets and communities. Eric Toney’s record of holding violent criminals accountable is unmatched in this race, and as a frontline prosecutor he has the right experience to serve as our state’s top cop,”  Sheriff Matz said.

“I enthusiastically endorse his candidacy and I look forward to working with him to make Winnebago County and the Fox Valley as safe as possible for our families,” Sheriff Matz added.

District Attorney Toney said he was honored to have Sheriff Matz’s endorsement as well as the more than 60 law enforcement officials who are supporting his candidacy for Attorney General.  In addition, the Wisconsin Fraternal Order of Police has unanimously endorsed Toney representing more than 2,300 members in 20 lodges throughout the state.

“As a district attorney and the only candidate in the race who’s prosecuted a case in Wisconsin, I’m uniquely qualified to provide the support local law enforcement needs to keep communities and families safe in the face of rising violent crime across the state. On day one, I’ll restore the cuts Josh Kaul made to the criminal prosecution unit at the Department of Justice, and I’ll begin to take back our streets and neighborhoods from the criminals who are getting a free pass under Kaul’s lack of leadership,” said District Attorney Toney
