WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) released the following statement after the Biden Administration reversed course on their plans to rescind Title 42—health protections that allow for the quick processing and expulsion of migrants who illegally cross the border and pose a risk to public health:

“Although the President has reversed his earlier decision to end Title 42, he must do more to alleviate the crisis on our southern border. Having seen the border crisis firsthand and met face to face with the men and women of Customs and Border Protection, it is clear that Title 42 should be in place as long as Americans are subject to COVID-19 restrictions rather than dates and deadlines that the President pulls out of thin air,” said Congressman Fitzgerald. “That is why myself and 142 of my colleagues signed a discharge petition to force a vote on a bill that would maintain Title 42 until all COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.”
