WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statement on the terrorist attacks against U.S. service members in Kabul, Afghanistan:
“Today is a dark day. Americans have watched in horror as footage of terrorist attacks at the Kabul airport emerge and we have waited in agony all day for information from our Commander-in-Chief. The truth is, we were promised a responsible withdrawal of our troops and personnel from Afghanistan. Today, we saw just how far the President missed the mark. We now find ourselves in an untenable situation where we need to either take back Bagram Airfield, or another airfield, or we leave thousands of Americans trapped in Afghanistan. In either situation, we risk more casualties. Rest assured, I will not stop until we have answers about how things went this terribly wrong. For now, my deepest condolences go out to the families who lost a hero today. We mourn your loss and our country will forever be in debt to your sacrifice.”
