WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) voted against H.R. 3684, partisan legislation that would tie up half the funding in the bill on Green New Deal mandates, disadvantage rural America, and bankrupt the Highway Trust Fund.
Congressman Fitzgerald issued the following statement on the bill:
“There is no doubt that a fiscally-sound, long-term federal investment in our nation’s infrastructure is needed to meet our nation’s growing transportation needs. Bridges must be repaired, roads must be repaved, and infrastructure must be improved. Unfortunately, the surface transportation bill we voted on today does little to address these needs and is fiscally irresponsible. Instead, the Democrats’ partisan proposal spends a windfall of money on Green New Deal mandates while relying heavily on deficit spending to fund these liberal initiatives, fanning the flames of inflation.
“Americans deserve better. This is yet another Democrat proposal that will overspend and underdeliver for the American people.”
