WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today released the following statement after voting against an infrastructure plan that fails to make the serious reforms necessary to modernize our nation’s infrastructure.

“As I outlined months ago, Congress could fix our infrastructure by simply returning to a user-fee system, pursuing innovative funding mechanisms, and aggressively reforming our regulatory process. This backward-looking bill fails to make these reforms and therefore will not fix the underlying problems that drive up the cost and delay the completion of infrastructure projects.

“The past month of Democrat infighting has also proven the obvious: the infrastructure package is inextricably linked to Speaker Pelosi’s socialist tax and spending spree. This crazy reconciliation bill will damage the economy and radically reshape the role of the federal government in our daily lives. The Democrats have somehow interpreted an extremely narrow majority in Congress as a mandate for unprecedented progressive transformation. This is not what common-sense Wisconsinites want.”
