WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today released the following statement after the House voted to raise the debt ceiling by $480 billion dollars without any reforms to address runaway spending.
“Reckless spending is bankrupting this country. Rather than work to address this problem, Democrats are focused on massive new entitlement programs that we cannot afford. This is a recipe for disaster.
“We desperately need to restore fiscal sanity in Congress. That starts with pairing any increase in the debt ceiling to reforms that reign in spending. Tonight’s vote failed to achieve that. Instead, it punted this problem to December so the House could get back to yet another unearned vacation. The American people deserve better.”
