Washington, DC – Yesterday, Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) and Rep. Greg Steube’s (R-FL) bipartisan Free Veterans from Fees Act passed the House of Representatives. This legislation would waive application fees for special use permits for veterans’ demonstrations and special events at war memorials on federal land.

“Our veterans deserve the very best our nation has to offer, and the last thing they should have to worry about when traveling to Washington, DC on national honor flights and buses is burdensome costs and paperwork. Waiving application fees is just the right thing to do,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “I’m thrilled to see the Free Veterans from Fees Act pass the House and I thank my friend and colleague Rep. Steube for partnering with me on this bipartisan effort.”

This bill would waive fees associated with any demonstration or special event whose primary purpose is to commemorate or honor either a group of people because of their service as veterans or immediate family members of veterans. Permit applications remain subject to all other laws, regulations, and policies regarding the application, issuance, and execution of special use permits for veterans’ demonstrations or special events.
