Samba Baldeh in visiting Fort McCoy for a tour of the facilities and a briefing on Afghan evacuee operations, planning, and processing through Operation Allies Welcome.

“I was glad to have the opportunity to visit Fort McCoy today and thank our service members for helping to carry out Operation Allies Welcome. Having visited our troops in Afghanistan a number of times over the years, nothing has made me prouder to be an American than seeing firsthand their dedication and commitment to serving this nation even under difficult circumstances. I also had the chance to meet many of our Afghan partners who supported our troops and our mission there for two decades. It’s clear that bringing our allies and their families to Fort McCoy is the right thing to do,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “As the Representative for Fort McCoy, I had all the confidence in the world in our service members to do this job with professionalism and excellence, and after the tour today I couldn’t be more impressed. I share Fort McCoy leadership’s goal of processing and integrating these Afghan families into communities across the country as quickly as possible, and stand ready to work with local, state, and federal leaders to make sure they have the necessary resources to do this critical job safely and effectively.”
